About Our School

In January 1995, Grandmaster Lascelles McCarthy, II., became the  instructor of Family Martial Arts. In June of 1997, Grandmaster McCarthy  became the new owner. In October of 1998, Family Martial Arts changed  it's name to McCarthy's Taekwondo/Self-Defense.  McCarthy's  Taekwondo has grown to be the Premiere school in the Temple - Belton  area and the surrounding community.

McCarthy's  Taekwondo/Self Defense stresses academic achievement for it's students  having enrolled over 3,000 honor students.  From January 1995, to August 2016, the school has attended over 550 tournaments netting a total of 6,500 wins! Included in those wins are 1000 STATE and 312 NATIONAL championship titles for both junior and senior divisions, several Junior Olympic Champions, and two inductees into Texas Martial Arts Hall Of Fame, 2008 two  more inductees into the World Head of Family Sokeship  Council International Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

Mr. Brian  Johnson was the first student to attend Junior Olympic and placed 3rd.   The following year Mr. Johnson qualified at the state level to attend  the Junior Olympics once again and achieved the gold medal.

In 1997 Master Lascelles McCarthy III was inducted into the Texas Martial Arts Hall of Fame

In  2000, Grandmaster McCarthy II was also inducted into the Texas Martial  Arts Hall Of Fame, and most recently won the USTU Texas State  Championship for both Forms and Fighting in January, 2002.

In 2003 Alex McCarthy became the youngest Pee Wee/Junior National Champion in the school, at the age of seven.

Black  Belt Stephanie Hicks earned a spot on the 2004 AAU National Taekwondo Team by  competing at the AAU National Team Trials in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Ms. Hicks is the first Female student to represent McCarthy's Taekwondo  & Self-Defense on the AAU National Team level.

2007  gave us a perfect record for Junior Olympic Champions with Mr. Alex McCarthy, Logan Liles, Mr. Zachary Chapman, Mr, Jaycee Chapman, all placing first in forms and fighting.

2008  Grandmaster McCarthy II and Master Aaron Naramore was inducted into the World Head of Family Sokeship Council International Martial Arts Hall  of Fame.

2009 Grandmaster McCarthy II received his 8th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, and Hapkido, also his 5th Degree in Senkotiros Arnis Filipino Martial Arts.

2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, McCarthy's Taekwondo/Self Defense was selected as Temple's Best Martial Art School.

2011 McCarthy's Taekwondo/Self Defense Hosted a Martial Art seminar with Bill "super Foot" Wallace, World Kick Boxing Champion, and movie star.

2012 McCarthy's Taekwondo/Self Defense hosted a Martial Art seminar with Grandmaster Max Pallen Sr. Senkotiros Arnis International.
