History of McCarthy’s Taekwondo

Family Martial Fitness was founded in June 1993 by Mr. & Mrs. Koss. From the opening of the school until fall of 1994 there were several instructors. During that time frame, ownership of the school changed to Miss Lisa Neckar.

On January 1995 Grandmaster Lascelles McCarthy II became the Instructor of Family Martial Fitness. In June 1997, Grandmaster McCarthy II became the owner. Since then, Family Martial Arts has grown to be the #1 school in Temple/Belton and surrounding Community. From January 1995, Family Martial Arts has accumulated over 1000 awards in competition, and over 500 honor students, over 300 State/Regional champions, 70 Senior National and Junior Olympic Champions, and two inductees into the Texas Martial Arts Hall of Fame. In 2005 Ms. Stephanie Hicks made the AAU National Taekwondo team.

As of October 1, 1998 Family Martial Arts changed its name for the last time to McCarthy’s Taekwondo/Self-Defense. On October 31, 1999, we moved to 2916 SW H. K. Dodgen Loop to a bigger and better Facility. On November 1, 2005, McCarthy’s Taekwondo/Self-Defense moved for the second time due to construction of the highway to its 2709 Exchange Pl.

In 2008, Grandmaster was inducted to the Head of Family Sokeship Council Martial Arts Hall of Fame. In 2018, Grandmaster travelled with 12 students and family members to Oakland, CA to test and received eight First Degree Blacks, one 5th Degree, and one 8th degree with the organization, Senkotiros Arnis International Philippines Martial Art. In 2019, our location was rebranded to Seenkohtiros Central Texas Arnis.

On June 1, 2022, we relocated to 1719 West Ave M, Suite A. Temple Texas 76504.
